About L. J. Smith. Lisa Jane Smith, or L. J. Smith for short, realised she wanted to be a writer sometime between kindergarten and first grade. She got her idea for her first published book whilst babysitting in high school and wrote while attending college at the University of California, in Santa Barbara, after which she went on to teach public school for many years. L. J. Smith enjoys computers, mythology, and walking in the woods at night. She lives in a rambling house, in the Bay area of northern California, with one dog, three cats, and about ten thousand books! Some of her best ideas come from sitting under the stars and watching deer feed around her in the hills. Since childhood, L. J. Smith has been fascinated by the night and the way the ordinary world changes in moonlight, which is why many of her books are about the mysterious things that happen after darkness falls. Ms. Smith also likes writing about strong female characters and encourages girls to read, write, and reach for their dreams. Besides the Night World series, L. J. Smith has written the novels Night of the Solstice and Heart of Valor, as well as The Forbidden Game, Dark Visions, and The Secret Circle trilogies, plus the best-selling series, The Vampire Diaries. The Night World books are the most recent works of the author however. The series first began with the publication of Secret Vampire, in June of 1996. Eight more books were added to the series over the next two years, drawing it near conclusion. The final book in the series though, titled Strange Fate, was meant to be published in late 1998 but due to the author experiencing personal problems, publication of Strange Fate was delayed. Unfortunately, the hugely anticipated book still has not been published but L. J. Smith has since maintained that she hopes to have it published in the near future. L. J. Smith now has her own web-site here. Or, for the latest news on Strange Fate, and, for more information about the other titles written by this author, check out one of her longest-running fan-sites, called Night World : Circle Daybreak. * Please note that the information about L. J. Smith was obtained from the backs of several of her books; the most recent ones being published back in 1998. [ -- Back. |
