His eyes are as dark as the depths of space. His smile sheds rainbows. And, his coldness melts when he falls in love. He is John Quinn.

What is the Night World series?
Tales of terror and forbidden love...

As I have already mentioned, Quinn is a book character from the Night World series. The Night World books are fictional works of the supernatural genre, written by the American author, L. J. Smith. The series has one central concept – that, amongst the ordinary, human world, there exists an underground society known as the Night World. The Night World is made up of vampires, witches, shape-shifters, and other creatures of darkness. These Night People live amid the ordinary world. They are extraordinarily beautiful – and irresistible – to humans.

The creatures of the Night World are bound by secret laws. These laws bind them from telling humans about the Night World and from falling in love with them. Breaking Night World law is punishable by death and the Night World series are stories of what happens when Night People discover they have human soulmates.

There are nine individual books in the Night World series and each book is about a different couple and their battle against the Night World and sometimes even amongst themselves!

* The scope of the Night World series is too great for this small fan-site. However, I run another web-site called Night World Information Collective, which covers the entire Night World series. It is the perfect resource for those who are new to the books.

What role does Quinn play in the Night World series?

Quinn starts out as a human in the Night World series, living in the mid-sixteen-hundreds when he is made into a vampire. After being rejected by his natural family, Quinn allies himself with a famous lamia (born vampires) family. He becomes determined to revel in his bloody nature thoroughly. He develops a reputation for utterly loathing humans and for being a stickler for Night World law.

All this changes when Quinn finds himself drawn to a human, Rashel Jordan, who also happens to be a very dangerous vampire hunter. After initially rejecting the idea that his soulmate could possibly be human and having already lost a girl he loved before, Quinn ultimately decides to renounce the very laws he so religiously followed, to be with his soulmate.

Quinn makes brief appearances in Daughters of Darkness and Soulmate, the second and sixth Night World books, respectively but most of his story is told in the fifth Night World book, titled The Chosen.
