MAYA AND HELLEWISE DUEL.
One of the most interesting discussions concerning the Night World series is about the epic battle between Maya and Hellewise.

This battle is so significant to witches because Hellewise autonomously saved this race from obliteration when Maya and her vampires began victimising them.

Maya and Hellewise were the twin daughters of the first witch ever, Hecate. They were both very good witches but as opposite as night and day. You can read exactly what happened before the battle that led Maya and Hellewise to become eternal enemies, here.

After Maya became a vampire, she began proliferating her race. She attacked the tribe of witches that she and Hellewise ruled. Theorn – now Thierry Descouedres, a boy that Hellewise had always liked, became her first victim.

Hellewise realised she would have to stop her sister. The witches of the tribe wanted to fight the vampires but Hellewise knew they could never match the superiorities the vampires possessed. So instead, Maya and Hellewise fought one on one.

Details about the battle itself are not elaborated on but Hellewise apparently won the battle and drove Maya and the other vampires out of their village.

We know Maya survived long after the battle because she stalked Thierry and his soulmate Hannah Snow for the next twenty thousand years. But what became of Hellewise? Well, even though she won the battle, Hellewise endured too many wounds. She died of her injuries not long after the duel.

Hellewise Hearth Woman will always be remembered by her progeny as the warrior who saved witches from eradication by vampires.
