ABOUT SARA.
To start off, my full name is Shareen Autar and I am a twenty-four year-old living in Sydney – to be more specific, in a suburb outside a town called Liverpool. I live at home with the family; Mum, Dad, and two older brothers. I have a Fijian-Indian background. My family migrated from Fiji when I was four years old.

I went to James Busby High School and graduated Year 12 in 2001. I got straight into university after that, attending the Macarthur campus of the University of Western Sydney. I studied a Bachelor of Biological Sciences, majoring in Biochemistry and Microbiology. I studied for four years, and after university, found a job at a pathology laboratory. I have been working with the same company for the past two years.

My first L. J. Smith book:
The first L. J. Smith book I read was Dark Visions 2: The Passion, read in 1999. I loved it so much that I made it a point to find out what other works the author had written. And then, because I couldn’t find many of her titles where I lived, I ordered almost every book from the Internet. It cost a fortune but the feeling of having your own copy is great. That was also when I discovered the online community. Also to let you know, the first Night World book I read was Secret Vampire. I read it in 2001.

Why create a site for the Night World series?
I really don’t know why I chose the Night World series except for some reason it was easier to profile the characters of this series than the others. The hardest part of making this site was profiling all the characters – there were so many! But once that was done, everything else came easy.

Which character/couple/Night World book is your favourite?
My favourite Night World characters are John Quinn, Raksha Keller, Delos Redfern, Rashel Jordan, and Maggie Neely. The couple I like most are Delos and Maggie, although Raksha and Galen Drache come a close second. As for my favourite book, I think it would have to be Black Dawn.

What do you think of L. J. Smith being online now?
I think it’s fantastic that L. J. Smith has become involved within her own online community. Certainly it serves as a great reward for us fans who have stuck around. Should anyone have a question or comment, they can now communicate with her directly. I am also enjoying following her blog.

How do you feel about the confirmation that Strange Fate will be published?
To be honest, I am not bothered if the book gets published or not. Why? Because I didn’t follow the Night World books as they were written. So I wasn’t one of those fans who were hanging off the back of their chair in 1998. Also, I like coming up with my own conclusions as to how the series might end – what if I don’t like how L. J. Smith decides to end it? On the other hand, the series does belong to L. J. Smith and it is her right to write the book, publish it, and end it the way she desires.

What has changed about you since you first got into L. J. Smith?
I am much older and mature. Work and responsibility came with it! Other than that, not much actually. I still read books when I can. I still enjoy lurking around the community. And that’s really it. I’m not married, I don’t have children, but I do have a wonderful boyfriend now.

More about me:
Well, I am of slim build, with black hair and brown eyes. I have a huge extended family but most of them reside in Fiji. Other than Fiji, I have only been to New Zealand. My likes and dislikes are listed further below.

More about my boyfriend:
I have been in my first serious relationship for one year and two months now. I won’t mention his name – unless he gives me his permission. I hope the future sees us together. For that to happen, there are many hurdles to overcome. Mainly the religious one, as he is Muslim and I am Hindu. And if you are of Fijian-Indian background, you’ll know this is no easy task!

What made me get into science?
I had no real direction as to what I wanted to study at university but when the time came to select my course, my high-school biology teacher was my inspiration for selecting Biological Sciences. I hated university for the first two years; it was such a change from high-school. I came from a pretty small school where everyone knew each other. It was hard to adjust to the impersonal level at which university lecturers operate. But in my third year, I studied Biochemistry and that’s when I began to enjoy my course.

More about my job:
I am employed as a scientific officer at Symbion Laverty Pathology, located in North Ryde. I have been a team of the Toxicology unit for the past two years (with a small stint in Endocrinology). In the Toxicology unit, we test for seven classes of drugs and do both routine and legal work. Through my job I have had the chance to work in Brisbane and also got to attend AusTox – the Australian toxicology conference, last year.

My likes and dislikes:
I like: Italian food, collecting books, wearing comfy clothes, clean and tidy houses, Dolce and Gabbana perfume, being hugged, getting my hair done, romance. I dislike: Cockroaches, being bossed around, untidiness, family in-fighting, people who are over-emotional.

Where do I see myself in five years time?
Married, with children. No fancy dreams and ambitions for me – just the simple life.

A message to other fans in the community:
Being a part of this community has been amazing. It has played such a key role in my life. The person I am today has been influenced by L. J. Smith. I have met some great people in this community and worked with some of you on various projects. Many friends have also lost touch but such is life. I would like to wish everybody well – may life be full of happiness for us all and may we all be happy for one another.
