His eyes are as dark as the depths of space. His smile sheds rainbows. And, his coldness melts when he falls in love. He is John Quinn.

About Impassibly Human.
Suddenly, Quinn seemed to focus...

Here, I describe how Impassibly Human was born.

How the site came about:

Ever since character shrines first began popping up in the L. J. Smith internet community, I have wanted to create one honouring Quinn. But back then, I had only read Daughters of Darkness and Soulmate, the two Night World books that have only minor appearances by Quinn. So, while I was fascinated by his character, I did not have enough information about Quinn to make a fan-site.

After years of hoping that I would find The Chosen in a bookshop or library, I was ecstatic about finding an online bookshop that was located in Australia, who were selling the book with reasonable shipping prices. So, in late 2002, I got to read The Chosen. There is no need to tell you that after reading the book, Quinn became my favourite L. J. Smith character.

I decided to make a fan-site towards the end of 2003, when I got tired of the lack of fan support for Quinn on the net. So, I spent a small portion of the last two years researching and collecting information for the shrine, and, at the beginning of this year, when thinking about what I would like to achieve by the end of 2005, one of the first things that came to mind was to get this damn character shrine finished and on the world wide web!

The title of this site:

A couple of months after deciding to make a site for Quinn, I thought up the title Impassibly Human.

‘Impassible’ for those who do not know is a variation of the word ‘impassive’, which means to be incapable of feeling emotion. I think the word impassible describes Quinn perfectly before he met Rashel Jordan. He was cold-hearted, hatred-filled, and detached from every person in his life.

The ‘human’ in Impassibly Human represents irony. I believe that the once-human Quinn hated humans as much as he did partly because he himself could never be one again. I think this because, when Quinn becomes a vampire, he thinks humans will never accept him for what he has become. For Quinn to think this, suggests to me that he was looking for acceptance. And he found that in the very-human Rashel.

When put together, Impassibly Human refers to a vampire, Quinn, who has become incapable of feeling emotion partly because he wants to be the one thing he has learnt to hate – to be human.

The layout:

The current layout features the American actor Nicholas Gonzalez. The image was taken from Hunky Male Celebs. Photo Express and Paint were used to put the layout together. Fonts used in this version of the site include Voluta Script and Times New Roman.
